Ah yes, the dreaded Mercury retrograde.

Even those who aren’t interested in astrology or, dare I say, “believe” in it — astrology actually has nothing to do with belief, but that’s a topic for another day — have heard of the trouble we can get into during these periods.

And theses retrograde periods happen quite a bit.

Mercury, that little mischief maker, goes retrograde three times a year for 20 to 24 days. Its next retrograde period will start on January 15, 2021 in the sign of Aquarius.

In general, Mercury retrograde is the ideal time to do any “re-” actions: revisit, revise, reboot, renew and so on, which should be approached by assessing and analyzing with precision — something Mercury especially digs.

These are times when the things Mercury signifies aren’t running as smoothly as usual, which includes communication, business, travel and transportation, and technology, including the Internet itself.

Miscommunications, lost packages, delayed planes, trains and automobiles, flights cancelled up the wazoo, a temporary slump in sales, website crashes — these are the types of things that might pop up more than usual during a Mercury retrograde.

During Mercury retrograde, it’s wise to give yourself a little extra time to get to the airport or an important meeting, to double check important messages before you hit send and keep your cool if markets are slow.

If possible, it is also better to hold off on buying any new electronic devices until after Mercury goes direct again on February 2, 2022.

But don’t worry about it too much. If you keep these things in mind, you’ll do just fine even if you come across some of those typical Mercury retrograde bumps in the road.
