Astrological Forecast for the 3rd week of January 2021

The third week of January only has two major aspects to mention, but boy are they big ones. They are:

  • Jupiter square Uranus on January 17

  • Mars conjunct Uranus on January 20

In the podcast I go over last week’s aspects a bit and then move on to these two might bring.

My father was a chemical engineer and, when I was a teenager, I used to sometimes ask him what he was up to at work. Whenever I did, he would inevitably say something like, “Well, we’re working hard and getting the catalyst collators to transcript with the jewel calibration on our electron microscope interfaces.”

Ok, so I totally made those words up, but that’s what it always sounded like to me, i.e. super technical and completely incomprehensible to the average Joe/Jill who knew nothing about chemical engineering whatsoever, which was me both then and now.

If you feel like this after listening to my podcast (e.g. What the heck is an aspect,? What do you mean by the houses? etc.) please do let me know. I plan to write some “astro basics” texts at some point, and it would be helpful to get feedback to help me gauge what it is people would like to know.

Until then, stay safe and see you next week.

XOXO

The tarot reading for January 16 to January 23

For this week, I decided to ask the cards what the week ahead will bring. I drew three cards initially and then a fourth.

The first three cards I pulled were the 9 of Swords, the Tower and the King of Swords.

Swords are the mental cards of the tarot, and I think it’s significant that I pulled three of them. Whatever ends up happening next week, it’s going to get us thinking and into our heads.

The nine of swords speaks to anxiety, worry, negative thinking, even nightmares, the tower upheaval, chaos, the sudden destruction of something that was not built on solid ground. The King of Swords stands for mental clarity in action, a person of authority and respect with a keen awareness of the rules and structures who is willing to fight for the truth.

In many ways, I think this card perfectly represents the blend of Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury in Aquarius: authority, structures, rules, respect combined with a sense of Justice (Jupiter) and a keen intellect (Mercury). I’m happy to see this card here, because it has the strength to stand up to whatever upheaval the Tower (Uranus?) brings. This is a card of action that will help ensure we do no only get locked into the mental anguish signified by the nine of swords.

This combination could manifest either in the outward world (next week will be inauguration week in the US, after all…) or in your inner world as a reaction to negative sudden events or chaotic situations.

The final card I pulled was the four of swords. I would interpret this card as speaking to a necessary rest and recuperation after the “battle” that took place this week, either literally or figuratively.

Since this reading is rather intense, and next week’s energy has lots of potential for volatility and even violence, I thought I’d do one more reading to see what the cards suggested we do to help us get through the week if things do get intense.

The cards I pulled were the Lovers and the seven of cups.

I have to admit, I laughed when I saw these cards because it seemed to me what the tarot was suggesting for getting through next week was “sex and booze.”

However, although that can also help in days of strife, this reading could also speak to defining and discovering your own truth and allowing yourself to connect, communicate and be vulnerable with others in the process (the Lovers) while making sure you don’t allow yourself the temptation of being drawn into a beautiful web of illusion and wishful, overly idealistic thinking and/or shiny opportunities that will lose their allure once the illusion wears off (seven of cups).

Feel free to decide which interpretation you prefer, but if you do drink, it won’t hurt to stock up on some nice wine just in case. ;)
